AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - Authorities say the preliminary cause of death for an Oakland County college student is asphyxiation.
Oakland Community College told WWJ Newsradio 950 that 30-year-old Justin Tucker of Ortonville, Mich., died Monday evening in Parking Lot 1 outside the physical education center on the school's Auburn Hills campus. Saying the man's death was determined to be an accident, OCC Public Safety said no one else was involved and no foul play is suspected.
Issuing update on the case Tuesday, officials said Tucker is believed to have died by asphyxiation, although a final cause of death will be determined by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.
OCC Public Safety said, however, this remains an active investigation, which will include a mechanical review of the student's vehicle.
"We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him," the school added, in a statement.
Counselors are being made available to meet with any OCC students, staff or faculty members who desire support. Extra counseling appointments and walk-in times have been established at all campuses.
