DETROIT (WWJ) - If only every story ended this happily ... Michigan State Police announced Wednesday afternoon that the three German Shepherds found running scared on the Lodge overnight were reunited with their owners.

Hundreds of metro Detroit residents shared the post about the dogs who had lost their owners after they were rescued by Michigan State Police say troopers. They swung into action after a call came in about a loose dog spotted on the freeway near Forest Avenue, just south of I-94.

When they arrived in the area, troopers realized it was actually three scared German Shepherds on the freeway.

With the help of a citizen, troopers were able to safely get all three dogs in their patrol cars and take them back to the station.

"As you can see they were happy to see us and were pretty tired from their experience," police said on Twitter.

They put them down for a long summer snoozle, hoping their owners would come forward.

As you can see they were happy to see us and were pretty tired from their experience. If you happen to be missing these dogs give the Metro South post a call.

And they did!

MSP announced eventually that the dog's owners saw the shared posts and showed up to claim their prize -- three happy, healthy -- and exhausted pooches.
