ROMULUS (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say a 25-year-old man is in custody following two shootings along I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport in as many days.

Police were called to eastbound I-94 near I-275 in Romulus around 1 a.m. Tuesday after a man reported his vehicle was shot at several times by a suspect in another vehicle. The man was not struck or injured.

Troopers closed I-94 from Haggerty to I-275 as they were collecting evidence and trying to locate the location of the shooting. The freeway was closed for several hours but has since reopened to traffic.

"The investigation so far has led us looking for a dark in color Pontiac Grand Prix," Lt. Mike Shaw told WWJ's Dan Jenkins.

On Monday, state police responded to the same section of the freeway around 1 a.m. after a man reported he was shot at by someone inside another car. Several rounds hit the man's vehicle, but he was not injured. The suspect vehicle was described as a silver Pontiac Grand Prix with sparks coming from the right tire area.

It's unknown if the two incidents are connected, but Shaw said it is looking that way.

"This is the second one, two days in a row. The same suspect vehicle description, the same timeframe, same area," he said. "So while we don't have any actual evidence connecting the two, they are very, very similar and we believe that they are probably connected."

Just before 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, police said a suspect, a Romulus man, had been taken into custody.

"Romulus (police) happened to know somebody that kind of matched the suspect description and things kind of just snowballed from there," said Shaw. "We were able to locate his address in the Barrington Apartments in Romulus. We used our Second District fugitive team to do some surveillance on the home. Once we were pretty certain that this was the vehicle we were looking for, we were able to execute a search warrant and take him into custody without incident."

Charges are now pending.
