INKSTER (WWJ) - The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has declined to press charges against a man who shot another man to death in a dispute over a parking spot in Inkster.
Michigan State Police say the shooter was the initial aggressor when the two men squared off over a parking spot on Michigan Avenue, between Inkster and Middle Belt roads, last Saturday afternoon. He punched 34-year-old Ali Salman, of Dearborn, in the chest but then retreated and walked away.
According to police, Salman pulled out a gun and chased after the man. At that point, police say the 25-year-old man drew his own weapon and fired shots at Salman.
Salman was struck in the head and declared dead at the scene. The shooter remained on the scene until the police arrived and surrendered his weapon.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said both video surveillance and witness statements confirm the shooter's version of events.
"The 25-year-old had the right to use deadly force to defend himself because he had a reasonable belief that imminent death or great bodily harm would occur," Worthy said in a statement.
