ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police are investigating a reported assault outside a Macomb County restaurant as a "possible hate crime."
Roseville police said Tuesday they are searching for a man who allegedly knocked a woman unconscious in the parking lot of the National Coney Island on Groesbeck Hwy., near 12 Mile Rd., at around 1 a.m. last Saturday
According to investigators, the suspect -- with three companions -- walked up to a car that was backing out of a spot, and began yelling obscenities. Realizing that she hadn't noticed the man while backing up, the driver got out of the car to apologize, police said.
But when she did, the victim reported that suspect called her a racial slur and then punched her in the face, knocking her out.
The suspect -- described as a described as white male in his 20s, about 6'1'' tall, with black hair and glasses -- drove away in older model Buick, police said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
There are no available pictures and no video of the alleged incident at this time as Roseville detectives say they're awaiting security footage from the restaurant and area businesses.
As an investigation continues, anyone who may know the suspect or who has any information about this crime should call police at 586-777-6700.
