ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A man is in police custody at a hospital after an officer-involved shooting at the Home Depot in Roseville Monday afternoon.

Witnesses had reported to WWJ around 5 p.m. that there was a large police presence at the Home Depot, but police did not initially confirm there was a shooting.

Roseville police were called to the scene of an unknown altercation at the Baymont Motel on 13 Mile Road in Roseville, with the report that a person involved in the altercation had a firearm, according to a press release sent Monday night.

Officers searched the motel for several minutes and did not find the people involved in the altercation.

That's when police received another call a few minutes later that there was an individual inside the nearby Home Depot, waving a gun. The store is located at Little Mack and 13 Mile Roads.

When officers arrived to the store, the suspect, a 22-year-old black male, was standing outside near the exit doors. As a Roseville officer attempted to make contact with him, the suspect raised a handgun and two officers fired shots at him. He was struck by two rounds before being tackled by police when he tried to flee on foot.

He was arrested and taken to a local hospital, where he remains in custody, in stable condition. Charges are pending, police said.

The officers did not suffer any injuries during the incident.

It is unclear what led to the altercation at the Baymont Motel, or why the suspect ended up at the Home Depot.

Fox 2 in Detroit shared footage from a viewer inside the store that shows the tense moments during the incident.
