DETROIT (WWJ) - We finally have some snow in southeast Michigan!

Forecasters say we could see around 6 inches before the snow stops falling Saturday. As of 3:45 p.m., most cities across metro Detroit are reporting anywhere from 1 to nearly 5 inches of snow.

National Weather Service spotters report 4.9 inches of snow in Ypsilanti; 4 at Metro Airport in Romulus; 3.8 in Farmington and Milford; 3.6 in Garden City and Ann Arbor; 3.5 in Ferndale; 3 in Berkley and Washington Township; 2.6 in Wixom; 2.3 in Newport and Howell; 2 in Saline, Monroe, Dearborn and White Lake; 1.5 in Dundee and Utica; and 1.4 in Wyandotte.

Those numbers will grow as snow continues to fall. The highest snowfall totals will occur along and south of the I-96 and I-696 corridors.

Snow emergencies have been declared in Royal Oak, Ferndale, Oak Park, Farmington, Livonia, Dearborn, Canton, Garden City, Trenton and Flat Rock. Residents are being told not to park their vehicles on city streets. Those who have their cars and trucks in the roadway face fines, and potentially having their vehicle towed.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday for Wayne, Washtenaw, Lenawee, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb and Monroe counties. Accumulating snow will lead to slippery roads particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses. Expect limited visibilities at times and use caution while driving.Forecasters say gusty winds this afternoon could lead to some blowing snow in open and rural areas.
