ASH TWP. (WWJ) -- A Monroe County teen is jailed, accused of ramming a vehicle, fleeing from police and hitting a patrol car with a baseball bat.
According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the 18-year-old's parents called 911 Sunday evening to report that their son took their car from the Orchards Mobile Home Community in Ash Township. They told police that their son made some concerning statements that made them worry for his and the public's safety.
A second call was then made by a couple on I-75, the sheriff said.
They reported a car, matching the one taken by the teen, had repeatedly rammed their car on the freeway while they were headed southbound on the freeway near the 20-mile marker.
Deputies responded, but a brief high speed chase was called off before the car was spotted speeding back into the mobile home community.
That's where Goodnough said the teen got out of the car with a baseball bat, which he used to hit and damage a South Rockwood patrol car.
The teen was ultimately tased and taken into custody after a brief struggle with a deputy, Goodnough said.
The deputy suffered some injuries to his face, the sheriff said, but he was treated at a hospital and cleared to return to duty.
The suspect is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail. His name is being withheld as he awaits an arraignment on the charges.
