(WWJ) An Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy was driving into the Pontiac Substation parking lot at 11:17 p.m. on Sept. 21, 2020, when he saw an SUV drive up onto the curb in front of the Fire Department station across the street and a man fell out of his vehicle, covered in blood.

He was also missing four fingers from his right hand.

Firefighters and police sprang into action to get the man to the hospital and in the process this story emerged: The victim, a 38-year-old Pontiac man, allegedly lost his digits to a crescent wrench after a couple attempted to buy drugs from him at a house in the 100 block of Mechanic Street.

While they were there, the couple let in a man who ripped off his fingers with a crescent wrench, allegedly because the suspect believed the man selling drugs -- the victim in this case -- had shot him the day before.

"It is believed this was possible retaliation as the main suspect had been shot the day prior to this incident and the victim may have been the one responsible for the shooting," police said.

Firefighters rendered aid and then they transported the victim to McLaren Oakland Hospital for treatment.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the victim was later transported to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Meanwhile, police investigated and found three of the victim's fingers in the apartment where the incident took place.

"The fourth finger was reported to have been in the female's purse, but then had been thrown into a grassy area when they fled the area," police said, adding the fourth finger was located near the apartment complex in a field.

A blood covered knife was discovered as well, which was more consistent with the victim's injuries. The alleged crescent wrench was not located. Only one of the four fingers, which were severed, were able to be reattached.

All three suspects involved -- the couple buying drugs and the man they let in with a crescent wrench -- have been arrested and are lodged at the Oakland County Jail.
