WATERFORD (WWJ) - Authoities in Oakland County are looking for tips to find the person who fired a bb gun at a Waterford Township police car.
Police say officers had made a traffic stop last week the area of Highland Road and Airport Road and were sitting in their squad care when they heard what sounded like a shotgun blast, followed by the sound of falling glass.
The two officers went to check on the third cop who was alone in another car to find a big hole in the rear window, with cracked glass surrounding it.
No one was injured.
The damaged scout car was processed by evidence technicians and a bb was recovered from the rear floorboard.
"Although it does not appear a firearm was used, it is clear these officers were targeted," the department added in a media release.
As an investigation continues, police have no suspects in the case and a $1,000 reward is being offered for the tip that leads to an arrest.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. Tipsters may also call the Waterford Police Tip Line at 248-674-COPS (2677) or contact police by sending an email to policetips@waterfordmi.gov.
