ANN ARBOR (WWJ) — An investigation is underway after a woman fended off a sexual assault over the weekend in Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor police officials say a woman was returning to her home in the area of Vaughn Street and Packard around 2:15 a.m. at the time of the assault.

The woman, whose age was not released, was trying to open her front door when a man came up behind her, according to police. The suspect began to pull the victim towards himself and he groped her, officials said.

The victim yelled at the suspect and slapped him, police officials said, and he ran from the scene.

Police were called to the scene, but were unable to find the suspect, who is described as a white male, approximately 6-feet-tall, with short brown hair.

No other details have been released.

Authorities are asking anyone who knows something about the incident to call the Ann Arbor Police Department tip line at 734-794-6939 or email tips@a2gov.org.
