Suspect in custody in death of missing Canton man, after his body was found in Dearborn

CANTON TWP. (WWJ) -- A suspect has been arrested in connection with the suspected murder a 70-year-old Canton Township man who was found dead in Dearborn.

The Canton Police Department said it began looking into "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the case of the man who was reported missing by his family Tuesday evening.


Then, overnight, the victim's body was discovered in a Dearborn parking lot.

Police said the man had been beaten, but officials are not yet discussing where the may was killed, or what led may have led to his death.

Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh said the Dearborn parking lot was also where investigators found the suspect, who has been identified as a 50-year-old man.

Baugh told WWJ's Jon Hewett that police the victim was acquainted with his killer.

"At this time we believe there's a friendship of some level that's transpired, and it wasn't random," Baugh said. "We believe that there's a relationship here. We're exploring what that really meant."

The chief added: "You know, in today's day and age there's so much technology that supports investigations like that, but it's time consuming."

Baugh said an active investigation into the man's death is still ongoing, with help from the Dearborn Police Department and the Michigan State Police.

At this time, police are not sharing the victim's name, until his extended family can be notified.

Potential charges are not expected until later in the week.
