'Massive' two-vehicle crash in Chesterfield Twp. kills 39-year-old woman, police searching for other driver who allegedly fled scene

CHESTERFIELD (WWJ) - A serious two-vehicle crash left a 39-year-old Chesterfield Township woman dead and a second driver wanted by police after witnesses saw a man running away from the scene on Friday night.

The Chesterfield Township Police Department said officers responded to reports of a serious traffic crash around 9:13 p.m. on Jan. 26 in the area of Gratiot Ave. and 25 Mile Road.

When police arrived, they found a "massive crash scene" with debris littering over most of the roadway and two vehicles -- a Kia sedan and a Ford F-250 -- heavily damaged.

According to the department, when officers approached the Kia, they discovered the driver, identified as a 39-year-old woman from Chesterfield Township, had died.

The driver of the Ford pick-up truck was no where to be found. During their investigation, witnesses told detectives that they saw a man running from the area shortly after the crash.

"Chesterfield Twp Officers were able to make contact with the parents of the deceased and informed them of the unfortunate death of their daughter," the department said in a press release.

The victim's identity was not made public.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing with police working on tracking down the man who was seeing running from the scene.
