BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) – An investigation is underway in Bloomfield Township after a drive-by shooting at a deli left an employee injured Sunday morning.

Bloomfield Township police officials say there’s an active investigation at Steve’s Deli, located in a strip mall at Telegraph and Maple Roads.

Authorities said there is no threat to the public, but there was expected to be a large police presence in the area for several hours.

Police responded to the shooting, which happened around 10 a.m. when the suspect, a 52-year-old Detroit man and employee of the deli, fired multiple shots from his car, a Bloomfield Township officer Nick Foley told WWJ.

A 52-year-old woman working inside the deli was hit. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Foley said Southfield police officers located the suspect after he fled the scene and tried to initiate a traffic stop near Greenfield and Outer Drive, but before officers could make contact, the suspect took his own life.

Authorities have not released any further information about the shooting, including a possible motive.
