DETROIT (WWJ) - A driver is in serious condition Friday morning after she lost control in wet conditions on I-75 and slammed into a median wall, state police said.

Michigan State Police dispatched troopers to the scene after receiving reports of a "serious" single-vehicle crash on southbound I-75 near 14th Street around 3 a.m. on Oct. 6.

According to a preliminary investigation, the driver -- identified as a 24-year-old woman from Livonia -- was traveling on the highway when she apparently lost control of her vehicle and slammed into the left median wall.

The woman was knocked unconscious due to the force of the crash and had to be extracted by crews from the Detroit Fire Department. She was rushed to a local hospital where MSP said she is in serious condition.

An on-scene investigation is complete and the woman's family was notified of the incident.

First Lt. Mike Shaw with MSP said the crash serves as a warning for drivers to use caution when traveling in wet road conditions.

“These one car crashes serve as a reminder of the need to slow down when driving in the rain," Shaw write in an update on the incident on X. “At times these crashes end up with someone losing their lives. Please make sure to slow down when conditions worsen.”
