SOUTHGATE (WWJ) - Southgate police are investigating a homicide case after a suspect taken into custody was accused of shooting and killing another man early Thursday morning.
The Southgate Police Department said officers were dispatched to the residence in the 12000 block of Cunningham around 12:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a potential home invasion in progress.
When officers arrived, they claimed a 41-year-old man was shot after arriving to the home by a 35-year-old man who was inside.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police took the alleged suspect into custody. An investigation into the case is ongoing, but details surrounding the shooting will be presented to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will determine any potential charges, police said.
Based on preliminary evidence, police added that the shooting was not a random incident and it appears some of the parties involved knew one another.
Authorities said there is no threat to the public at this time.
