RAISINVILLE TWP (WWJ) A crash in Monroe County claimed the lives of a woman and a 10-year-old girl.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened on Wednesday, August 5, at approximately 7:12 p.m. on South Custer Road (M-50), west of Palm Drive, in Raisinville Township.
According to authorities, a 56-year-old Monroe woman driving a Honda SUV (HR-V) attempted to turn into a residential driveway on the south side of the road. A Ford pickup truck (F-150) traveling west rear-ended her vehicle.
Sheriff's officials said the impact thrust her SUV into the other lane, and caused it to strike a Chevrolet pickup truck.
The Honda and the Chevrolet pickup both came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of S. Custer Rd. The Ford pickup came to rest on the westbound shoulder.
First responders pronounced the woman and the 10-year-old girl in the SUV dead at the scene. The woman was identified as Amy Beason.
Beason and the child were not wearing seatbelts, according to sheriff's officials.
Authorities did not say how, or if, Beason and the child were related.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, a 61-year-old Montgomery, Texas man, was taken to Toledo ProMedica Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
Three women--ages 16, 23 and 59-- sharing his last name were also hospitalized. All four of them are in serious condition.
Sheriff's officials say the Texas man and the 59-year-old woman were wearing seatbelts. However, the teen and the young adult in the back seat were not.
The driver of the Ford pickup, a 38-year-old Dundee man, was wearing his seatbelt. He was not hurt.
Airbags deployed in all three vehicles, according to authorities.
Raisinville Township is just under 10 miles northwest of Monroe, Michigan.
