CASS COUNTY (WWJ) - Over 100 animals were seized from a home last week in Southwest Michigan and one man was arrested after authorities found all kinds of reptiles, farm animals, rodents -- and even a crab.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office said deputies, along with officers from the Animal Control Division, discovered the animals after conducting a search warrant at a home in the 2500 block of Lilac Ave. in Howard Township on Wednesday, June 21.

According to Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, the animals were allegedly kept in an “inhumane manner."

During the search, authorities found a staggering 107 animals that included cats, dogs, goats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, snakes, turtles, mice and even a water-dwelling crustacean.

The conditions of the animals were not released by authorities.

The man, which authorities identified in a statement as Robert Dean Archer II, 39, was arrested on a bond revocation order and is currently awaiting trial.

"Officers are requesting charges on Mr. Archer with the Cass County Prosecutors office," deputies added.

This isn't the first time Archer has been the subject of an animal neglect investigation.

According to records with the Michigan Department of Corrections, Archer was on probation in 2022 for "animals-abandoning/Cruelty 25 or More Animals."

The investigation remains ongoing. No other details were released.
