ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A 12-year-old girl remains hospitalized after getting hit by a car while walking to school in Macomb County Tuesday morning.

Martin Road, near the intersection of Barkman in Roseville, was closed for hours on Tuesday as police investigated the crash that injured a minor, not far from Roseville Middle School.

The Roseville Police Chief Ryan Monroe told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the student was hit by a 21-year-old male driver who was heading east on Martin.

The driver immediately stopped at the crash scene and is cooperating with investigators who are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.

Monroe said the child was transported by EMS and underwent surgery. She is currently hospitalized with severe injuries.
