
FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MICH. (WWJ)- Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies took a 13-year-old boy into custody for allegedly absconding in a stolen car.
Monroe County Sheriff Deputy Brett Thomas was called to investigate a stolen vehicle complaint around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in Frenchtown Township. The incident happened on Kimberly Drive in the area of Telegraph and Buhl. The victim told investigators someone had stolen his 2009 black Dodge Charger from his driveway within the past hour, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Lieutenant Brian Sroka spotted a car matching the description around 4:30 a.m. at North Telegraph and Mall Road about three miles away from the victim's home. Lt. Sroka attempted a traffic stop, but the car continued to travel north. About a mile later, the car drove off the roadway and into the front yard of someone’s home. Lieutenant Sroka, Deputy Thomas and another deputy apprehended the two boys who were inside the car.
The driver was a 13-year-old boy and the passenger, a 14-year-old boy, both from Monroe. The car was confirmed to be the stolen Dodge Charger, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 13-year-old was lodged at the Monroe County Youth Center for fleeing & eluding, and receiving and concealing stolen property. The 14-year-old was released to his guardian until the Monroe County Prosecutors Office can authorize a warrant.
