BEDFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- A 13-year-old boy has been arrested, accused of breaking into two homes in Monroe County.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, deputies were already looking for a teen who ran away from home Sunday afternoon.

An hour or so later, at around 5:20 p.m., a break-in was reported at a nearby home, in the 7100 block of Twin Canyon Dr. in Bedford Township.

Officials said a resident reported the young suspect broke into an outbuilding workshop, threatened him with a gun and swung a hammer at him. There was a struggle, according to the sheriff's office, before the teen was restrained by the victim until deputies made it on scene.

Investigators said that shortly before that incident the suspect had broken into another home, in the 7000 block of Brookside Dr., and stole the gun. There was no one home at the time, and no one was hurt.

The teen is being held at the Monroe County Youth Center on charges of Home Invasion, Breaking & Entering, and Felonious Assault. His name has not been released.

The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
