DETROIT (WWJ) A Detroit teen was charged as an adult for a shooting at the Downtown Detroit "Teen Takeover" that left another teen hospitalized.
Prosecutors charged Ramon Smith, 17, with several felony charges including Assault with Intent to Murder, Felonious Assault and three counts of Felony Firearm.
They allege Smith got into a fight with a group of teens at Library Park, near Campus Martius and the Shinola Hotel, on Sunday, May 17th. Authorities say he fired a handgun into the crowd, striking a 14-year-old boy in the chest.
Police said Smith fled the scene, but officers found him a short time later and arrested him.
The victim was released from the hospital and is expected to be okay.
Smith was arraigned Saturday, May 23. According to WXYZ, the judge set his bond at $500,000.
Teen Takeovers, spontaneous gatherings arranged on social media, are taking place all over the country. They often result in hundreds of teens gathering at one location.
Fights have broken out at many of them, including a brawl at a Chipotle in Washington D.C. that led to eight arrests and several diners getting trapped inside the restaurant.
