(WWJ) If you're looking for a day at the beach this weekend, your list of options just got a bit smaller.
A report from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) shows that bacteria levels at 18 beaches across Michigan are too high for swimming as of 5 p.m. on Friday, July 9.
So, what's causing the spike?
The heavy storms that hit Michigan this past week have resulted in an increase in storm water runoff, which tends to boost levels of bacteria.
The list includes the popular St. Clair Shores Memorial Park Beach on Lake St. Clair in Macomb County, and multiple beaches in Oakland County.
