EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - A Macomb County man who managed to run away from police during a transport last month pleaded guilty to escaping custody and is seeking a reduced count in his original case, authorities said.

Devonta Deshawn Moore, 18, of Eastpointe, appeared in Macomb County Court last week and pleaded guilty to fleeing police custody while facing a felony charge in exchange for dismissing his second charge of resisting arrest, the Macomb Daily reported.

Moore is due to be sentenced by Judge Richard Caretti on Nov. 1 -- the 18-year-old seeks to be included under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act. If Moore is granted HYTA status, he will be required to complete a set of conditions upon which the charge would be expunged from his public record.

Moore is looking to apply the HYTA status to charges relating to his original case and subsequent incarceration. As reported by the Macomb Daily, the 18-year-old recently pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace, a misdemeanor, in 38th District Court in Eastpointe in exchange for dismissal of a domestic violence charge in a case where police say he struck his brother.

He ended up pleading guilty to yet another misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Moore is set to appear in court for sentencing on those charges by Judge Kathleen Galen on Nov. 15.

The Macomb Daily reported that several probation violation hearings are also scheduled for Moore on the same day for other prior misdemeanor cases.

On the case related to his escape of police transport last month, Moore saw his bond reduced by Caretti from $100,000 cash or surety to $5,000 personal and was ordered to wear a GPS-tether if released from jail.

When the case came before the district court, Galen denied Moore's request to reduce his bond, citing Moore's past failures for showing up to court hearings, as well as his recent escape.

Moore was apprehended by police during a traffic stop outside of Brighton in the beginning of August as he tried to hide under a pile of clothes in the back of his mother's car.

Moore had been on the run for three days after he fled from Eastpointe Police officers during a prison transport to the Macomb County Jail on assault charges.

Moore was said to have escaped while in belly chains and flip flops -- detectives investigating his whereabouts were soon led to Moore's mother, Tamika Shepherd, 46.

Police now accuse Shepherd of aiding her son after his escape and believe she and Moore's girlfriend, Lashaun White, 25, were taking him to Mt. Pleasant.

Both woman have now been charged with accessory after the fact, a felony, for their alleged involvement, police said.

Shepherd is due back in court for an Oct. 3 pretrial while White faces an Oct. 3 hearing.
