PONTIAC (WWJ) -- A 19-year-old Pontiac man has been charged in the fatal shooting of a young Warren man whose body was found in a field more than two weeks ago.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department said Kqualin Douglas was arraigned Monday on one count of second degree murder, along with tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and weapons charges.

Investigators allege that Douglas shot 19-year old Cornelius Murphy Jr. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

Murphy's body was found the next day, after someone called 911 and reported a seeing a man lying in a field near a home, in the 100 block of N. Jessie in Pontiac.

Douglas was arrested following an investigation by the OCSO.

“I am proud of our team that began an investigation with nothing and through their diligence and professionalism were able to not only identify a suspect, but gather enough evidence that charges could be brought,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, in a statement. “We look forward to the justice system moving forward on this case on behalf of the victim, his family and the community.”

No motive for the shooting has been released.

Douglas is being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
