(WWJ) A young man is dead after a motorcycle crash Monday night along I-94.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers responded to the scene at around 11:30 p.m., in the westbound lanes of I-94 near Merriman Road, near Detroit Metro Airport in Wayne County.
MSP said an investigation found that two motorcycles riders were traveling at high speeds when one of them lost control and crashed into the concrete wall. The 19-year-old rider was thrown off the motorcycle and hit a light pole, police said.
The young man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said his family has been notified.
No one else was injured.
“We want to remind motorcycle operators to drive responsibly," said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, in a statement. “It is important to know your riding abilities, wear a helmet and drive the speed limit when operating a motorcycle. It will help prevent crashes like this one.”
Police noted that this crash came after two other fatal freeway crashes in the Metro Detroit area on Monday.
"Please be careful out there today," Shaw wrote on X on Tuesday. "Yesterday, we had three people die in three separate preventable traffic crashes. Drive the speed limit, leave plenty of room between your vehicle and the one in front of you and buckle up. Be nice out there!"
