DETROIT (WWJ) — Possible severe weather has put a damper on the start of the Detroit Jazz Festival.
Organizers of the annual Labor Day Weekend event announced Friday afternoon that two performances scheduled for Hart Plaza Friday night will now be live-streamed only due to the impending severe weather.
“Acting out of an abundance of caution and the safety of our patrons and artists, we have decided to present both concerts, Translinear Light The Music of Alice Coltrane, and Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band as livestreamed only performances from the Gretchen C. Valade Center,” officials said in a statement released just before 4 p.m.
They will be live-streamed for free on www.detroitjazzfest.org without a live audience.
All outdoor Detroit Jazz Festival events have been postponed for Friday evening only, and the rest of the weekend’s events are expected to take place as scheduled.
It was not immediately clear if performances for Friday’s “Midtown After Hours Special” at the Gretchen C. Valade Center at Wayne State, scheduled for 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., will still take place.
The entire weekend schedule can be found on the Detroit Jazz Festival website.
