Troy police: 2 arrested for driving drunk on their way home from Christmas parties
TROY (WWJ) — Two drivers are in trouble with the law after being caught driving drunk in Troy on their way home from Christmas parties last month.
A 31-year-old Taylor woman and a 34-year-old New Baltimore man were arrested in separate incidents near I-75 and Big Beaver Road the week before Christmas, Troy police officials said in a report Thursday.
Around 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14 Troy police were called to the area of Big Beaver and northbound I-75 to do a welfare check after a passerby spotted the driver of Chrysler 200 slumped over the wheel.
When officers showed up they found the driver asleep, with the car still running and in drive. When officers woke the New Baltimore man, they noticed he smelled of alcohol.
He told police he was on his way home from a company Christmas party and he believed he was currently in Auburn Hills, according to police.
The driver was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up after failing multiple field sobriety tests and refusing to take a preliminary breath test. Chemical breath tests at the facility came back with results of .139%. and .137%. He was issued a citation for operating while intoxicated and preliminary breath test refusal.
A little more than 24 hours later, the Taylor woman was busted for drunk driving in the area. Around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 Troy officers were called to the Big Beaver on-ramp to southbound I-75 after a caller reported seeing an SUV in the ditch.
When officers showed up they found a 2020 Jeep Compass halfway down the ditch, where it was missing a tire and had "significant damage." Officers spoke with woman, who said she was coming from a Christmas party and that she was not injured by the crash.
She also failed multiple sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer. Once at the Troy Police Lock-Up she had two chemical breath test results of .17%. She was issued a citation for operating with a BAC of .17% or more and PBT refusal.
Neither driver's name has been released.
