DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two Detroit men are facing premeditated murder charges, accused in the fatal shooting of a Berkley teen.
Janiya Brown, 15, was found dead on May 11, 2022, in an alley near Joy Rd. and Livernois, on Detroit's west side.
Detroit officers found the teen dead outside a 2013 Chevy Malibu then had been reported stolen during a carjacking.
According to investigators 23-year-old Andrew Walker Jr. hit Brown with a handgun before both he and his codefendant, 23-year-old Russell McGilary, shot her multiple times, killing her.
Both are also charged with first degree murder, as well as felony firearm.
Police said Brown was a runaway from a her aunt's house in Berkely, where she'd been staying since moving from Cleveland. Brown had been missing for three weeks when her body was found.
Walker and Brown were arraigned in 36th District Court and remanded to jail without bond, with their next hearing, a Probable Cause Conference, set for June 12.
Officials have not talked about a possible motive for the killing, nor what ultimately led to the men's arrests four years later.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said complete facts and evidence will be placed on the record during the preliminary examination.
