(WWJ) Two people are dead after a fiery, one-vehicle crash on Sunday in Jackson County.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers responded at around 10:40 a.m. on Oct. 8. to a call about a crash and a car on fire on Pulaski Rd. near Swains Lake Rd, in Pulaski Twp., southwest of Jackson.

The Concord Fire Department put the fire out, and two people were found dead, and unidentifiable, inside the car.

Police said an investigation found that the driver of the 2012 Honda CR-V was speeding on the rural road, when they lost control, left the roadway, hit a tree, and the car burst into flames.

Both the driver and passenger were killed, MSP said.

Witnesses told police that the Honda driver had been speeding, crossed the double yellow line, and tried to pass another vehicle before the deadly crash.

MSP said troopers made contact with family members and they're confident they know who the two people are, but autopsies will be conducted to confirm their identifies. Once their identities are confirmed, their ages and hometown will be released.

Police said they don't yet know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, as the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the MSP Jackson Post at 517-780-4580.
