DETROIT (WWJ) -- Of the three women charged in connection with the home invasion of a Detroit police officer, one is a civilian -- and two are fellow cops.
Prosecutors allege that on Apr. 11, DPD Officers Briana Cabano, 29, of Auburn Hills, and Dayna Sears, 21, of Southfield, broke into the victim's home, destroyed the residence and stole property. They were joined by Colleen Compton, 29, of Warren.
The trio were arraigned later in April and each was charged with one count of second-degree home invasion, one count of malicious destruction of property between $1,000 and $20,000, and one count of larceny.
Officer Cabano and Compton were also charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit home invasion, while Officer Sears was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony.
If convicted of the most serious offenses, the defendants face up to 15 years in prison.
All three were given a personal bond of $5,000, and have a preliminary exam scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, June 14.
Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido commented on the case, saying the fact that the defendants are law enforcement officers only amplifies the severity of the offense.
"As prosecutors," Lucido said, "it is our duty to hold all individuals accountable for their actions, regardless or their profession or position of authority."
