DETROIT (WWJ) -- Two Detroit police officers are recovering in the hospital after a cruiser was hit head-on.

According to a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department, the crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday near 7 Mile Rd. and Hoover on the city’s east side.

Investigators said a DPD cruiser was parked, blocking traffic at a crash scene, when another car traveling westbound on 7 Mile crashed into it head-on, seriously damaging the vehicle.

Both officers were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. They were last reported to be in stable condition.

The driver who hit the cruiser was arrested at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Investigators are working to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
