DETROIT (WWJ) -- Children in Detroit will be able to get COVID-19 vaccines Saturday as the Detroit Public Schools Community District and Detroit Health Department are teaming up for a pair of vaccine drives at two schools.

Clinics will be held at Martin Luther King Jr. High School -- at 3200 E. Lafayette Street -- and the Randolph Career and Technical Center at 17101 Hubbell Street.

Both clinics will offer first-dose shots to kids ages 5-11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while second-dose appointments will be scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4 at the same school locations.

Parents or guardians will need to be present and provide consent for children under the age of 18 to receive the vaccine.

Appointments can be made on the DPSCD website.

DPSCD officials say Saturday's two clinics will be part of a number of vaccine drives at multiple schools in the coming weeks. Future vaccine dates will be announced at a later date. That information will also be available on the district's website.

Officials say the district is launching a "Get the Vax" campaign to push for all students, staff and families to get vaccinated, including booster shots.

More information on the COVID-19 vaccine can be found on the Detroit Health Department website.
