ST. ALBANS, W. Va. (WWJ) - Two Michigan men are jailed in West Virginia after allegedly dumping a large amount of fentanyl during a police chase through multiple counties.
The suspects, 36-year-old Levonte Bell of Detroit and 28-year-old Jalen Bell of Dewitt, are said to have led multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase through the Mountain State's Kanawha and Putnam counties Saturday.
The vehicle had been flagged for being part of a drug-related investigation. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop along MacCorkle Avenue in St. Albans, W. Va. before the vehicle accessed Interstate 64 West and crossed into Putnam County.
Emergency dispatchers said West Virginia State Police and Putnam County Deputies then joined the chase.
Police in St. Albans said both suspects were seen throwing objects out of the window during the pursuit, believed to be large amounts of fentanyl.
The vehicle ultimately suffered a mechanical issue and stopped. Both men were arrested without further incident.
Officials said during article tracks and pursuit re-tracks, officers found what they call an extremely large quantity of fentanyl.
In addition, a large amount of cash and additional amounts of fentanyl were seized from the suspect vehicle.
Both suspects have been charged with possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and reckless fleeing. The Bells remain jailed in West Virginia each with a $25,000 cash bond.
