(WWJ) Metro Detroit is home to a couple of the best high schools in the country, according to a new report.

U.S. News and World Report is out with its annual ranking of the top high schools in the nation, and two in Michigan made the top 50.

Ranked number 11 nationally, and tops in Michigan, is International Academy of Macomb.

The International Academy of Macomb is a magnet school that offers an International Baccalaureate curriculum. As underclassmen, students will take classes meant to prepare them for the IB courses they'll take as juniors. To apply, incoming freshmen must pass the IAM placement test, submit academic records and a recommendation from their middle school, and provide their state standardized test scores.

Those ranking the schools say on top of their coursework, students at International Academy of Macomb can take part in activities like student council, pep band, Harry Potter Alliance and soccer club.

The second best high school in Michigan, according to the rankings, was International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, which ranked 21st nationally.

The 2025-2026 Best High Schools rankings, released Tuesday, ranks nearly 18,000 out of more than 24,000 reviewed public high schools in all 50 states and Washington D.C. The number of high-ranking schools varies per state. Eleven high schools each in Arizona, California, Florida and Texas are in the top 100, the most of all states. New Jersey is next with nine schools in the top 100.
