LANSING (WWJ) — Police believe alcohol may be to blame for a crash that killed one person after an SUV plunged into the Grand River on Saturday.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Jolly Highway and Williams Road, according to a report from WILX in Lansing.
Michigan State Police officials said early Sunday morning a 2012 Lincoln MKZ had been found in the Grand River and a male passenger was dead inside. Officials did not specify when the SUV and victim were found. A dive team had been searching Saturday night.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim, but MSP officials say the driver is being investigated for operating while intoxicated.
Police officials said Saturday night the two rescued people were sent to the hospital as a precaution and were expected to be okay, according to WILX.
Authorities did not release any information about the driver.
The investigation is still ongoing.
