2 suspects armed with knives arrested for alleged home invasion after brief stand-off, dog attack in Roseville

 Two men accused of breaking into a home and trying to rob a resident with a knife were taken into custody Monday evening after a brief barricaded situation and an encounter with an aggressive dog took place.

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Two men accused of breaking into a home and trying to rob a resident with a knife were taken into custody Monday evening after a brief barricaded situation and an encounter with an aggressive dog.

The Roseville Police Department said the incident unfolded originally at a home in the 17000 Block of Martin Road in Roseville. Officers received a 911 call from the homeowner around 9 p.m. to report a break-in.

According to the homeowner, the two suspects had knives and one man allegedly held a blade the homeowner's neck and demanded money. The homeowner broke away and managed to run to a neighbor's house to call police.

The two suspects fled from the house on foot by the time officers arrived.

Roseville police ended up requested help from a K-9 unit and the dog tracked the suspects to a home on the 27000 Block of Bohn Street. The department said several piece of evidence pointing to a home invasion were found outside the residence.

"Officers made contact with individuals inside of the residence and ultimately one suspect was taken into custody without incident," the department said in a prepared statement. 'Upon taking this subject into custody, a brown/tan dog exited the home and aggressively charged the K-9 officer and his partner. The officer fired one shot and the dog succumbed to the injury."

According to police, the second suspect remained inside the home and refused to come out. The department's Emergency Response Team along with a negotiator were called out to the scene where they spoke to the man over the phone.

The second suspect ultimately came out and was arrested without further incident.

Both men were taken and lodge at the Macomb County Jail. The Roseville police said the incident remains under investigation and will submit their case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's office in the coming days.
