TROY (WWJ) -- Some Troy residents say loud music being played by a church in their neighborhood has turned their weekends into a nightmare.
People who live hear Crooks Rd. and Wattles say their Sunday mornings feature an early, and quite unwelcome, wake up call.
From 7:30 a.m. through late into the afternoon, every single Sunday, residents say Wisdom City Church plays booming music, making for a miserable day for neighbors.
Tad Ramaya is among those residents who spoke up at Monday's City Council meeting.
"It's literally in our homes, with the windows and doors closed," Ramaya said. "So, it's not like, 'Oh, just close the window, close the door.' No. We're like in our houses, trying to enjoy our property, and we can hear the booming, reverberating base in our homes. Every weekend my 9-year-old daughter comes and says, 'Daddy, the bass woke me up again! I can't sleep.'"
Ramaya said neighbors have called the police and talked to the church, but nothing has been done to quiet down the music.
Resident Denise Ye said it's intolerable.
"The sound is more like a car parking next to you, like 'boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!' I can feel the wall is vibrating. So, since last year, when the church started to open, they start to play these lose frequencies of music every Sunday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.," Ye said.
The Troy City Council has vowed to take up the issue, with some members suggesting a review of the church's permit to ensure the building is properly sound-proofed for the neighborhood.
