REDFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- Authorities are out with another warning for parents about the dangers posed by e-bikes, after another e-bike crash in Metro Detroit.

Redford Police say two teens are in the hospital after an accident in the Wayne County community over the weekend.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday (8/11) in the area of Inkster Rd. and Clarita in Redford.

A 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were crossing the road, when they were hit by a car.

The 13-year-old boy was left with a serious head injury and a broken arm that sent him to the ICU, police said. The 15-year-old girl had several broken ribs.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that the teens were riding together on one e-bike southbound on Inkster Rd. on the sidewalk on the west side approaching Clarita. The e-bike began to cross the street going west to east at Clarita before reaching the east side of Inkster Rd., where the bike was hit by a black Dodge Journey which was headed northbound on Inkster.

Police said the driver of the Journey did stop at the scene and has been cooperating with investigators, adding that alcohol, drugs or speed were not a factor in the crash.

This crash adds to a long list of crashes involving teens and e-bikes in Metro Detroit this summer.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Officer Jacob Vance at jvance@redfordpd.org or 313-387-2561 in the Redford Police Traffic Bureau.
