DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police have arrested two suspects in connection with a deadly triple shooting at a east side park last week.

Police said the shooting happened as young people were gathered at a park near Denby High School, on Kelly near Morang, at around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27.

Speaking Wednesday, Police Chief Todd Bettison said he's "highly confident" they have the right people in custody.

Both of them, he said, are teenagers.

"I will not call them persons of interest, I will call them suspects," Bettison told reporters. He clarified that these are not the same two people who were first questioned by police about this case.

"Originally we had two persons detained the same day of (the shooting), and we were able to quickly identify that they had nothing to do with it and they were uninvolved."

Police arrested the two teenage suspects on July 2, Bettison said, but their names have not been released as they await an arraignment on the charges.

Two of the shooting victims died. They have been identified as 4-year-old Samir Grubbs and 18-year old Dayvion Shelmonson-Bey.

A 17-year-old boy was shot and wounded.

Police haven't released details on a motive for the shooting, although the chief said there was some type of dispute that erupted into violence.

As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, Bettison offered this message to Detroiters:

"I want to say to the parents, know where you teens are. It's one thing to tell a parent to be responsible, but if you know better and you see (something), step up and help somebody. Help your neighbor."

The case has been sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to determine charges.
