2 teens taken to hospitals after shootings in Detroit Thursday night

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Heading into the weekend, Detroit police are investigating at least two shootings involving teenagers.

In one incident, at around 7 p.m., police said shots were fired into a group of people in a neighborhood near Evergreen and Lyndon, on the west side.


One of the bullets hitting a girl, said to be in her late teens.

Medics got her to the hospital for treatment, and police said her wound was not believed to be life-threatening.

A person of interest in that shooting was taken into custody later Thursday night.

Separately, at around 11:30 p.m., police said a teenager was walking with another person on Lesure Street on the west side hen someone who pulled up and fired shots.

The teen was wounded, and was taken to a hospital. He was last reported in stable condition.

As of Friday morning, no one was in custody in that shooting.

In a third incident, shortly before 11 p.m., police said shots were fired at a gathering on East Street, near Eastern Market.

Two men were wounded. One of them was listed in critical condition at a local hospital, and the other was stable, police said.

It's unclear if there were any teens involved.

Police said they were looking for one suspect still at large in that shooting.

This all comes amid a rash of large gatherings dubbed "teen takeovers" have been happening in Detroit, and across the country.

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield said they're continuing to work to address the problem, in part by offering organized, safe and supervised activities for kids in the city this summer.
