(WWJ) Two intersections in Macomb County are the most dangerous in the state, according to a new report.
Data released by the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit, and analyzed by attorneys at Michigan Auto Law, shows Van Dyke Ave. and 11 Mile Rd. in Warren and 18-and-a-half Mile Rd. and Van Dyke in Sterling Heights top the list of the 20 most dangerous in the state.
The statistics show there were fewer crashes at the Van Dyke and 11 Mile intersection last year compared to 2023, but there were still 185 accidents resulting in 26 injuries.
Rounding out the top five Most Dangerous Intersections in this study were:
Martin Parkway and Pontiac Trail in Commerce Township;
Schoolcraft Rd. and Telegraph Rd. in Redford;
and Hamilton Street and Washtenaw Avenue in Ann Arbor
Michigan Auto Law says the leading causes of intersection accidents include: running red lights, disregarding stop signs, disregarding yield signs, failing to yield the right-of-way, disregarding the right-of-way laws, improper left hand turns, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.
Why do this study each year?
"The goal of this report isn't to alarm drivers, but to help them stay informed and safe," stated Steve Gursten, President and Attorney at Michigan Auto Law. "When drivers understand where these dangerous intersections are, and what behaviors contribute to crashes, they can make smarter, safer decisions behind the wheel. Knowledge is one of the most powerful tools we have for preventing accidents."
