(WWJ) Metro Detroit got a little bit hotter last year.

According to the National Weather Service — out Monday with its annual temperature summary — preliminary data shows that 2024 was the warmest year on record across Southeast Michigan.

The annual average temperature surpassed the previous record set in 2012 at Detroit and Flint, and 1931 at Saginaw.

In Detroit, NWS said the observed average temperature in 2024 was 54 degrees F — which is 3.4 degrees F above normal when comparing with tamps on record, with records kept since 1874.

In Flint, NWS said the observed average temperature in 2024 was 51.9 degrees F — which is 4.2 degrees F above normal when comparing with tamps on record, with records kept since 1921.
