(WWJ) A 22-year-old man has been charged with first degree premeditated murder in the death of a 36-year-old man found in a pool of blood in Pontiac.
Scott Furney of Pontiac was ordered held without bond at a video arraignment in 50th District Court on Wednesday. Along with the murder charge, which is a life felony, he faces one count of felony firearm, a two-year felony.
The victim -- identified by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office as 36-year-old Michael Mulholland of Pontiac -- was found just before 2 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Dwight St. A man called 911 to report he walking to a friend's house when he spotted Mulholland lying facedown in the middle of the street, not moving. The victim appeared to be holding his head, the witness said, and there was a "large pool of blood" around his body.
Mulholland was pronounced dead, and investigators found a single spent shell casing next to his body.
Deputies canvassed the area and a K9 Unit began a track, but didn't find anything. Following further investigation, detectives arrested Furney, described as an acquaintance of the victim, early Monday morning.
It's alleged that the two men were walking together when Furney fired a handgun at Mulholland.
Authorities have not said how the two men knew each other, and a motive for the killing is unclear.
Furney will remain held in the Oakland County Jail as he awaits his next court appearance, scheduled for Oct. 22.
