DETROIT (WWJ) A young man died in a fiery, rollover crash on the Lodge on Detroit's west side.

Michigan State Police (MSP) officials said the Detroit Regional Communications Center received reports of a one-car crash that involved a vehicle on fire and blocking lanes. The crash happened on Saturday, June 7, around 2:15 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near the exit to Chicago Boulevard.

According to MSP, their preliminary investigation revealed the 25-year-old driver of an SUV was traveling north on the Lodge, ran off the roadway and up the embankment. He then struck a tree and crashed back down on the freeway, rolling over. He was ejected from his vehicle, MSP said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and city of residence were not released.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one else was hurt.

"We are reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts," MSP First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said. "Not only will it keep you behind the wheel, it will keep you inside the vehicle if it rolls over. This crash pends further investigation and Medical Examiner (ME) reports."
