ANN ARBOR (WWJ) — Police in Ann Arbor are investigating after a rash of car break-ins in a parking lot during a University of Michigan basketball game over the weekend.
Ann Arbor police officers were called to the Pioneer High School parking lot around 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12 after getting multiple reports of vehicle break-ins.
Police officials say the break-ins happened during the Wolverines’ game, a win over Washington that tipped off at 2 p.m.
In total, 27 cars had their windows smashed out by an unknown suspect or suspects, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department.
While officials did not say what was stolen from the cars, the department is reminding community members and visitors they should never leave any valuable items in plain sight in their vehicles. That includes purses, wallets, cell phones, cash, credit and debit cards, electronic devices and personal IDs.
Authorities are asking anyone who knows something about the break-ins to call the Ann Arbor Police Department at 734-794-6920, email the department’s tip line at tips@a2gov.org or submit a tip to Silent Witness at aapd.a2gov.org/silentwitness.
Officials say you should report any suspicious activity and if you see anything unusual or suspect someone might be trying to break into a car in Ann Arbor to call 911 or the non-emergency line at 734-994-2911.
