DETROIT (WWJ) A woman was struck by a vehicle on I-94 after she was thrown from her car during a crash in Detroit's Midtown, police said.

Michigan State Police (MSP), said in a social media statement, Detroit Regional Communication Center received a call about a woman who had been hit in the left lane of the westbound side of the freeway— near Woodward—on Sunday, January 12 around 4:35 a.m.

Troopers found the 27-year-old Detroit woman unresponsive on the freeway and rushed her to the hospital for treatment, according to MSP.

Further investigation by MSP revealed the woman was the driver of a crashed Chevy Impala found near her. The Impala lost control while on the ramp and ran off it to the left, slid down the embankment, and ended up on the right lane of WB I-94.

During the crash; the driver was thrown from her vehicle and landed on the left shoulder of I-94, according to MSP.

She "did not appear to be" using a seatbelt at the time of the crash, MSP said.

First Lieutenant Mike Shaw told WWJ, as of 11:30 a.m., the woman was still alive. Her condition was not released. Her family has been informed.
