28-year-old cyclist killed after car strikes him in Canton Township

A Milan man was pronounced dead early Saturday morning after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in Canton Township, authorities said.

CANTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Milan man was pronounced dead early Saturday morning after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in Canton Township, authorities said.

According to Canton Township police via WDIV, The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday as the 28-year-old man was riding a bike down Michigan Ave. near Hannan Road. Police said a 31-year-old driver in a Ford Fusion was traveling westbound on Michigan Ave when he hit the bicyclist.

Authorities responding to the scene pronounced the 28-year-old man dead. The driver of the Ford was unharmed.

At this time, officials said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the fatal crash and police are still investigating.

It isn't known if the driver will face charges.

No other details have been released by police.
