WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) — One Commerce Township woman has died in a single car crash on Monday night due after the teen who was driving lost control of their vehicle while speeding, police said.
Authorities with the West Bloomfield police responded to the scene of the crash that occurred around 8:40 p.m. on April 18. A preliminary investigation revealed a 17-year-old male was driving a 2022 White Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck on the southbound lane on Branford Driver, just north of Berwick Drive.
Authorities said the area has a posted speed limit of 25 mph, but the teen driver was traveling above that; the truck's exact speed was not released by police.
The teen lost control of the vehicle, according to police, and the tuck veered and hit a large rock and struck multiple trees.
Police said the teen driver and a 16-year-old female passenger both sustained minor injuries and are expected to be OK.
A 21-year-old female passenger sitting in the rear seat of the pickup truck was pronounced dead on scene by authorities.
Police said all three occupants were residents of Commerce Township.
At this time, officials said neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the fatal crash, but the investigation remains ongoing.
