DETROIT (WWJ) – Three Detroit firefighters and a civilian were taken to a hospital after a crash in Southwest Detroit Thursday afternoon.
Officials tell WWJ the firefighters were in a fire engine on their way to a reported structure fire, when the truck was hit by a car in the area of Fort Street and Springwells around 4 p.m..
Rescue crews had to cut open the cab of the fire truck to get the driver out, a spokesperson said.
The driver had a small laceration on his face, while one firefighter in the back of the truck complained of a leg injury and the third had a hip injury, Deputy Fire Commissioner Dave Fornell told WWJ.
The civilian suffered minor injuries. He initially said he didn't want to go to the hospital, but authorities told him he needed to be checked out, Fornell said.
Authorities say all of the injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. The firefighters were seen walking around before going to the hospital, officials said.
Officials did not disclose the ages of anyone involved in the crash.

Fornell said the crew was headed to a call that turned out to be a false alarm. The truck had lights and sirens on at the time of the incident, but authorities still aren't sure what led to the crash or who was at fault.
Fornell said both the truck and the other vehicle sustained significant damage in the crash. The engine may be totaled, Fornell said.
A pole was also brought down near the scene of the crash.
